Referencing two photos of Hanmee, I created this rendering using layers of acrylic paints on 9 x 12 inch canvas. Hanmee is the first in a series of 30 pet portraits in 60 days. I'm pleased with the outcome of this work. I look forward to the next 29 in this series.
Hanmee is available for sale at a very low price of only $75.00 plus shipping and handling charges directly from my website: Off The Cuff Art

30 Pet Portraits in 60 Days

Minnie-Me is a cat that belonged to a friend. It's a 9 x 12 inch acrylic on canvas painting. I worked from the photo to make this painting.
I became inspired to do the above painting after reading Carol Nelson's blog who is a gifted artist. If you haven't seen her work, please try to check it out. Carol is doing a project called a 100 portraits in a 100 days.
So now I'm thinking that I would like to do a similar project with pets. I think a less daunting task of 30 portraits in 60 days. I want to give myself space to allow for family obligations. I would need a close up similar to the one in the photo above. It's an understanding that anyone submitting a photo by doing so is giving me permission to use it in the artwork. Further, I have permission to post the finished pieces on my blog, websites, etc.
There is no obligation to purchase as this is an exercise to help me as an artist to improve in my skills. It's understood that I will choose from the photo's submitted and there's no guarantee the image will be used in the project. I will make the finished 9 x 12 unframed canvas pieces available for sale at $75.00 each. I will use a similar system that each piece will have a number and the name of the pet. I.e., Petey-1, Rexy-2, etc.
Please provide only a close up of the face of your pet. One pet only in the image. I would like to begin the project on February 1st. Photo images of good quality, 300 dpi and up to 600 pixels on either height or width. Forward to SunfluerDesigns@Yahoo.com
I'm excited about this project and hope to receive many submissions.

Vampire Art

I never seem to tire of a good vampire story. Right now, I'm reading Elizabeth Kostova's "The Historian" about Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Dracula. Reading definitely spurs the imagination and proves to be a very useful tool to stir the imagination.
The creative spark ignited a 2nd installment to my vampire/gothic art portfolio. The top card show is Blood Lust 2 and as you can guess the one below it, is the first. I designed a card as well as other products at my Zazzle store.

For the vampire lover, Blood Lust 2 would make a very nice if twisted Valentine's Day card. The art is currently available on a mousepad and magnet. Soon I will add more products illustrating this artwork.

Poor Alice

I like illustration art. This is my interpretation of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. My thought was to make the queen an imposing figure with Alice appearing meek in the background.

When We Least Expect It

Nice things always happen when we least expect it. Artists want their work recognized. Often times we don't know where it will come from. I was floored yesterday when my Heirloom Recipe binder received special recognition on Zazzle. I find out today that the binder made it to the top 10 most viewed binders. This is completely unexpected. I'm always happy to just carve out small sales here and there. Needless to say, I'm both humbled and elated by it. It is such a nice beginning of the new year. Thanks to everyone who made it possible.

Poppies In Winter

Poppies in Winter, acrylic on canvas. My first painting of the year. The freezing, cold and snowy weather here in the Northeast inspired this piece. I look ahead to the shinning and warm rays of the sun.

Welcoming a New Year of Artful Creations

It has never been a habit for me to make resolutions for the New Year. I start the new year, 2010 as I do each day. It's a new day with all the potential for inspiring artworks on paper or canvas. This is my quest and burning desire to make art anew. It's a clean slate to begin again. Each art creation is a new beginning, a new opportunity to do something different, to improve and stretch my creativity.

I look forward to 2010 as I do each day with a fresh outlook and new opportunities to broaden my creative path. On my agenda is starting new art blocks for the artomat project. My goal is to ship a new batch of art blocks out by mid-February. In between, I have ideas for new paintings and drawings. I'm thinking about new rooster paintings and other flights of fancy.

Last year, I received excellent sales at my Zazzle store with gift products designed from my original artworks. I plan to continue and expand the offerings at Zazzle. Additionally, my plan is to add more artworks to my Imagekind gallery portfolio. With more art offerings at Imagekind, I look forward to expanding sales of my art in the form of high quality prints and framing. I'm thinking about expanding by offering my original art on Ebay. I think I need to do just a bit more research before I dive back in.

These are just some of the art goals I've set for myself in 2010. Resolutions for me seem to be a do or die approach. With goals in mind, I can revamp and extend if needed and not feel so badly if things just do not go according to a pre-determined resolve. For me, art making is in motion and begs not to be constrained with unrealistic time expectations. I can move the goal post at will which is liberating for me. My artwork is pursued around my obligations to family all the more reason to factor in flexibility.

I'm looking forward to sharing with you the new creations in the coming days and months. Stop in from time to time to see what I've been up to lately. Perhaps my work will inspire the spark of creativity for you.
